Shrimati Kalawati Gupta, despite belonging to an unprivileged and uneducated family, associated herself with the nationalist activities. She got educated in social work from Vardha and worked for the upliftment of harijans. She established Mahila Mandal for the adivasi women, and helped teach them the art of stitching and knitting, and also in obtaining education. She tirelessly worked for the upliftment of adivasi women throughout her life, and made many sacrifices for the betterment of our nation.
