Ahmedabad-1

The Jyoti Sangh began as a means to provide women, who came out of their homes to join the Satyagraha moment, social acceptance. Since its inception in 1934, the Jyoti Sangh, founded by Mridula Sarabhai, has lit up lives. It came into existence after Mahatma Gandhi called for an organisation run by women and for women.

A permanent exhibition depicting the journey of women’s emancipation, through 75 years, in India and Gujarat in particular, is housed at Jyotisangh Relief Road. This museum has been established to recount to the current generation each incremental step taken towards women’s emancipation. It traces history right from the days of the freedom movement and the inception of Jyotisangh in 1934 by Mridulaben Sarabhai, to the legendary tales of the gun totting Charuben Yoddha who rescued oppressed women.
