400th birth anniversary of of Lachit Borphukan celebrated at Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Tokyo

As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and ''India-Japan@70'' celebrations, to commemorate the heroism of Lachit Borphukan, the legendary war hero of Assam, his 400th birth anniversary was celebrated at the Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Tokyo by paying homage to the legend and remembering his indomitable spirit and leadership. H.E. Shri Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan, paid respects along with several Indian and Japanese members of the public. Lachit Borphukan was the youngest son of Momai Tamuli Borbarua, the first Borbarua of upper Assam and Commander-in-Chief of the Ahom army under King Pratap Singha. His heroics during the Battle of Saraighat in 1671 against the mighty Mughal Army are part of  Assamese folklore. Due to his valour, Mughal Army could not conquer the Ahom Kingdom.
