‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’, the 50th Golden Jubilee of Indian Victory in 1971 war with Pakistan was observed at the Red Shield auditorium, HQ 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong, Kangpokpi district today. The celebration was held to commemorate India’s successful military operation over Pakistan in 1971, selfless sacrifice to the nation and dedication of Indian Army personnel in protecting the sovereignty of the country.
After receiving the victory flame, homage to martyrs was paid by laying floral wreaths at Shanti Van (War Memorial) lead by Honorable Governor of Manipur Shri La. Ganesan, Lt. Gen.(rtd) KH Singh, Lt Gen.(rtd) LN Singh and Major General Naveen Sachdeva. A tree sapling was also planted by the Hon’ble Governor as a tribute to all the martyrs of 1971 war.Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Governor of Manipur Shri La. Ganesan said that in the 1971 war, one of the shortest wars in history lasting only 13 days, the Indian Army secured a decisive and historic victory over the Pakistan Army which led to the creation of a new nation ‘Bangladesh’. He further said that the victory of India in the 1971 war has immensely raised the stature of India amongst the other countries.
