The Embassy of India in Iceland, in association with the Indian Association in Iceland (IAI), celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' at the Reykjavik City Hall on 06 November 2021. The event was graced by Ms. Maria Mjoll Jonsdottir, Director General from Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, representatives from Icelandic Adoption Society, Indian diaspora & Friends of India.
India's rich cultural heritage was displayed at the event. The program began with the lighting of lamps and included interaction with Indian-origin adopted children, the launch of the Indian Association of Iceland's website, bhajans, poetry, fashion show, folk/Bollywood performances by ladies & children, skit, and a showcase of Indian cuisine.
The celebrations also comprised of performances on themes such as "India's Freedom Movement", "Unity in Diversity", "Say No to Plastic", etc.
