Pazhassi Raja’s Remembrance Day observed in Kerela

Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, the Lion of Kerala, valiantly fought against the British and became an iconic symbol of resistance against the foreign invasion in the Country. His 216th death anniversary was observed at Mananthavadi in Wayanad in Kerala. The remembrance day was organized by the Department of Archaeology, Government of Kerala as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Shri. Ahammad Devar Kovil, Minister for Ports, Museum, Archives, and Archaeology inaugurated the event. Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja was a rebel among the Kings and King among the rebels, he said in his inaugural address. He made our country proud and was a real role model of resistance against the British raj in India. He sacrificed his life for the liberation of our country from foreign rule and firmly believed that unfreedom was terrible than death, he added further. Shri.O.R.Kelu MLA presided over the event. Smt. C.K.Retnavally, Chairperson Mananthawady, R.Sreelekshmy, Sub Collector, Shri.E.Dinesan, Director, Archaeology Department, Shri.Justin Baby, President Mananthavady Block Panchayat, Shri.Junaid Kaippany, Chairman Standing Committee, District Panchayat, Shri. H.B.Pradeep Master, President Edavaka Panchayat, Smt Licy Joy, President Thavinjal Panchayat, P.M.Asiya, President Panamaram Panchayat, Shri. P.V.S.Moosa, Vice Chairman Mananthavady Municipality, Shri.Ravi Varma Raja, Trustee Pazhassi Kovilakom, Shri Vipin Venugopal, Shri.P.V.George, Smt Sindhu Sebastian, Shri Jacob Sebstian, Shri Abdul Asif, Standing Committee Members, Manathawady Municipality, Shri.S.Jayakumar, Conservation Officer, Archaeology Department, Shri. K.Krishna Raj, Field Assistant, Archaeology Department, K.S.Jeevamol, Artist, Archaeology Department were among those who participated in the event. Dr.P.P.Abdul Razak, Former Head, Department of History, PSM College, Dr.K.M.Bharathan, Head Department of Cultural and Heritage Studies, Malayalam University presented papers at the seminar which followed and was moderated by Shri. O.K.Johny.
