March 28, 2023

In the 99th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced by highlighting the importance of organ donation. He said that when a person donates one’s organs, they have the potential body to give new life to many people—at times even eight to nine people can be saved by a single donation. He added that education and awareness about organ donation have increased over the years in India. In 2013, there were only five thousand organ donation cases in the country. This number has increased to more than fifteen thousand in the year 2022. The Prime Minister shared his interactions with the families who donated the organs of their dear ones and contributed towards saving many lives in the process.

Later in the episode, he applauded the contribution of women in taking India to new heights. He highlighted the names of Surekha Yadav (Asia’s first female loco pilot and first woman loco pilot of Vande Bharat express); Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves (who won Oscars for their documentary film ‘The Elephant Whisperers’); Jyotirmayi Mohanty (who received a special award from International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in the field of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering); Indian U-19 Women’s Cricket team (who won the T-20 World Cup); Group Captain Shalija Dhami (who’s the first woman Air Force officer to get a Commandant appointment in the combat unit); and Captain Shiva Chauhan (who’s the first woman officer to be posted at Siachen).

The Prime Minister also highlighted various solar energy initiatives that helped in taking India’s Solar Energy mission forward.
