He was a Lance-Naik in British Indian Army and hailed from village Nanadpur in district Amritsar, Punjab. In 1940 he refused to fight for the British Army by going over Sea. He was court martial for spreading dissatisfaction among solider and refusal to go and fight. He was awarded death sentence and on 28 August 1940 he was sought death.
