He was resident of Punjab and was serving the 5/11 Sikh Regiment of the British-Indian at Singapore. He was taken as prisoner of war by the Japanese forces in 1942. He joined the service of the Azad Hind Fauj and served it as sepoy under its I Guerrilla Regiment; on being deployed on the Burma front to confront the British, he died in the course of a fierce engagement with the enemy in Arakan (Burma) in 1945.
