He hailed from village Rajal of district Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. He switched over from the British Indian Army to Azad Hind Fauj in 1942 as sepoy. He joined the 2nd Infantry Battalion. He gave his life fighting the British at Burma Front in 1944.
