Pettaiyan was born on 23 June 1923 in Coimbatore. He was deeply interested in the policies and the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. He laid new roads for Gandhiji’s Coimbatore visit in 1923. He actively participated in the Salt satyagraha and was imprisoned in Kovai Central jail. In 1942, he took part in the Quit India Movement. He passed away on 16 December 2002.
