Pattalam Chettiyar was a veteran Congress leader from Palacode in Dharmapuri District. He was a patriotic singer Belonging to the Bharatha Matha Society of Theerthagiri Mudaliyar. He was a follower of Gandhiji, Kamaraj, Sardar Vedarathnam Pillai, and Rajaji. He was a close associate of Kamaraj, and Rajaji and also worked for the All Indian Congress Committee and the Indian Freedom Movement. Mahatma Gandhi visited Krishnagiri with his wife Kasturba on 24 August 1927. He donated a 2.5 sovereign gold chain for the uplift of women without any hesitation. He created awareness among the villagers about Khadi and promoted the boycott movement.
