41st Congress session at Guwahati, 1926

Assam has a distinct identity and cultural heritage it has played a significant role in shaping Indian nationalism in the region. The Congress was welcomed in Assam during the pre-independence period primarily because of its nationalist agenda, its focus on social and economic development, and its commitment to secularism and democracy. Party held its 41st session of the Indian National Congress in Guwahati, Assam, in December 1926, which was an important event in the freedom struggle against British rule in India.

Tarun Ram Phukan organised the All-India Congress Committee session at Pandu Nagar, Guwahati. This session included prominent national leaders such as Gandhi, Motilal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Madan Mohan Malaviya, and many others. The session was significant for being held in Assam, which is a remote and underdeveloped region, and for the participation of leaders from across India. It was presided over by S. Srinivasa Iyengar. During the session, leaders of the Congress discussed the political and social issues faced by the people of Assam and the need for their empowerment.

The Guwahati session was a defining moment in Assam's history, as it indicated the start of the state's political awakening, instilled patriotism, and was premised on the idea of national unity.
