Bhairulal Kala Badal

Baran, Rajasthan

July 03, 2023 to July 03, 2024

Bhairulal Kala Badal was born in 1918, in the village of Kakodi kheda, located in Baran district. During his sixth-grade studies in 1936, he was approached by Tansukhlal Mittal, a minister of the Prajamandal (People's Movement), who sought to enlist him as a member. He accepted the membership and began actively participating in the Prajamandal's activities, donning thick khadi clothes. In 1938, when he announced a Prajamandal meeting in Kaithun, he was detained at the police station.

Bhairulal was an ardent follower of Gandhiji and he participated in the Quit India movement in 1942. In their efforts to hinder the British army, Bhairulal and his companions cut the railway telephone lines. To evade arrest, he took refuge in the forests of Bhainsrosd garh. He fought against the exploitative "Jarayam" profession law in the state of Jaipur, ultimately securing justice for the people. Throughout the freedom struggle, Bhairulal endured several incarcerations.

In recognition of his active involvement in the freedom struggle and his efforts to emancipate the people of Rajasthan from feudal oppression, the Rajasthan government honoured him with a prestigious Tamra Patra (Copper Plate) in 1987. After a lifetime of unwavering dedication and service to his country, Bhairulal Kala Badal passed away in 1997.
