Chaudhary Ramchandra Narayan

Ramchandra Narayan Chaudhary was born in 1922 at tehsil Warud, dist. Amravati, Maharashtra state. He was the son of Narayan Chaudhary. He was educated up to the 4th standard. Benoda Village was also involved in the civil disobedience campaign from 1930 onwards. Inspired by Tukdoji Maharaj and Mahatma Gandhi, Ramchandra threw himself into the freedom struggle. He actively participated in the "Quit India" movement that commenced on 8 August 1942. Benoda was a small village in Amaravati where Benoda Circle police station was located on the bank of river Dhavalgiri. On the day of Nagpanchami, i.e. 16 August 1942, the people of this division marched to the police station and tried to take it over, but the police stopped the march at Dhavalgiri.

Ramchandra joined the march taken out on 16 August 1942 towards Benoda police station to demand the ouster of the British from India. The marchers were fired upon near the Dhavalgiri river bridge at Benoda. Five freedom fighters were martyred and 22 people were injured in this firing. 350 freedom fighters were captured including him.  On the night of the 16th, the police and the army did many kinds of repression in the Benoda division and later imposed a community fine of Rs.7000. He was arrested and sentenced to one year of hard labor imprisonment.

Ramchandra Narayan passed away in 1943.
