Bedone Jayramji Naradaji

Amravati, Maharashtra

May 07, 2024 to May 07, 2026

Bedone Jayramji Naradaji, born in 1872 in Yavali village, Amravati, Maharashtra, was a humble and illiterate man who became a fervent participant in India's struggle for independence. Inspired by leaders like Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, who ignited the flame of freedom in Vidarbha, Jayramji joined the Quit India Movement in 1942.

Yavali, known for its active involvement in civil disobedience campaigns and jungle satyagrahas, became the epicenter of resistance on August 15, 1942. Led by Jayramji and fellow villagers, the movement began with the hoisting of the tricolor at the village school. Subsequent acts of defiance, including breaking the post box and occupying key village structures, symbolized Yavali's declaration of independence.

The villagers, under Jayramji's leadership, bravely defended their autonomy against police intrusion. Despite facing violent crackdowns, including indiscriminate firing resulting in casualties, they remained steadfast. Jayramji's arrest and subsequent imprisonment underscored his unwavering commitment to the cause.

Jayramji succumbed to police torture in Betul district jail and passed away in 1944.
