He participated in the Quit India Movement started on the call of Mahatma Gandhi along with the active leaders of Bemetara because his village is adjacent to Bemetara. Strongly opposing British rule and proudly carrying the tricolour in his hand, he used to participate in processions in every village. His loud slogans against British oppression filled all the other comrades and youth with enthusiasm.

In Raipur Jail, the prisoners were harassed by the jail officials, so at night he and his companions used to harass the officials by banging their food plates against the bars and not allowing them to sleep. After being released from jail, he started living a normal life.
