Krishnapal Singh

Krishnapal Singh, born in 1922 in Birhuli village, Shahdol district, led a life marked by struggles and significant contributions to India's political landscape. While in high school, he actively participated in student movements, demonstrations, Satyagraha, debates and meetings. As a college student in Rewa, he served as the President of the student union and founded the Student Congress.

In 1942, under the guidance of Parmanand, Krishnapal Singh played a pivotal role in the Quit India Movement, resulting in a one-year imprisonment. During the riots of 1947-48, he continued his service work alongside his student peers. Post-independence, he fought against capitalist exploitation to improve the economic conditions of Dalits and villagers, advocating for the cause of social justice. His activism led to numerous arrests and imprisonments.

In 1946, Krishnapal Singh joined the Socialist Party where he worked closely with prominent figures such as Acharya Narendra Dev, Jaiprakash Narayan, and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. He also served as the President of the United Socialist Party of Madhya Pradesh. In 1965, he joined the Congress Party at the invitation of Smt. Indira Gandhi. He contributed to the Congress Party by serving on various committees and worked as General Secretary alongside Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then President of the Provincial Congress Committee.

Krishnapal Singh passed away in the year 1999.

Krishnapal Singh ’s name is mentioned on page number 133 of the book “Vandan” published by Jamaica regarding the freedom fighters of Madhya Pradesh.
