Mekala Asinarayana

Mekala Asinarayana was born in 1910 in Bandaru, Krishna District. His father's name was Shri Purushottam. He received his primary education in Bandaru, where his family was involved in business. They later settled in Avanigadda of Divi Taluka. At a young age, Adinarayana joined the country's independence movement.

During the mourning of Motilal Nehru's death, Mekala participated in a hartal and was beaten by the police while carrying National Flags. In 1930, he supported the Salt Satyagraha and spent two months of rigorous imprisonment in the Rajahmundry Jail starting on 9 February 1931. On 11 January 1932, he was again lathi-charged for distributing leaflets urging government employees to resign. He actively participated in the Satyagraha movement and was sentenced to three months of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.20 on 11 February 1941 for raising anti-war slogans. The fine was collected, and he served his sentence in the Rajahmundry Jail.

In 1942, Mekala participated enthusiastically in the Quit India Movement. He organized several programs against the British colonial rule, staged dharnas in front of liquor depots and attacked government treasuries. He promoted the Khadi campaign, violated government rules, and incited people to resist the British colonial authority. As a result, the police severely beat him with batons. Due to the injuries sustained, his health deteriorated.
