Ever since the United Nations declared 23rd September as the International Day of Sign Languages, the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre ISLRTC under the aegis of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment celebrates it every year.
The objective of the Sign Language Day celebration on a large scale is to sensitize the general public about the importance of Indian sign languages, and the information and communication accessibility for persons with hearing disabilities. The theme of this year's Sign Language Day-2022 is “Sign Languages Unite us”.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, Minister of State for Education Annpurna Devi, Secretary Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and several other dignitaries will attend the Sign Language Day event in New Delhi.
During the program, the Indian Sign Language Dictionary App, the e-content of NCERT Class 6 books in Indian Sign Language, 500 new Academics Terms of Indian Sign Language, and the e-content of National Book Trust on Veergatha series in Indian Sign Language will be launched.
Approximately 3,200 organizations and institutions have been roped in for celebrating Sign Language Day 2022 under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
