The Gujarati Madhavpur Mela is linked to the Mishmi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The Mishmi Tribe can trace its roots back to the legendary King Bhishmak and his daughter Rukmini and Lord Krishna. The festival commemorates Rukmini's legendary journey with Lord Krishna from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat. Bhismaknagar, in the Lower Dibang Valley District, also finds mention in the Kalika Purana.
Cultural groups from the North-Eastern Indian States will be invited again this year. The event will be attended by dignitaries and visitors from Gujarat and North Indian regions. In collaboration with the Government of India and North Indian State Governments, the Youth and Cultural Department and Tourism Department plan to host cultural programs along with a handicraft exhibition.
