Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: Remembering the Partition

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has announced that the 14th of August will be designated as an annual "Partition Horrors Remembrance Day." This day aims to keep alive the memories of the hardships and selfless acts of Indians during the 1947 partition. To fulfill this purpose, IGNCA under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture has curated a program including intellectual discussions and symposiums at selected Central Universities and Institutions throughout India, in memory of the significant and tragic event of India's partition.

The following events are scheduled to be organized:

  • A half-day seminar and interaction session with survivors of the partition will be organized under this event in collaboration with the Partition Museum, Ambedkar University's Dara Shikoh Library, Lothian Road, New Delhi.
  • A book launch for 'Revisiting Partition: Tales of Displacement, Horrors, Negotiation, and Reconciliation' by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi is scheduled for IGNCA, New Delhi, on the 14th of August 2023.
  • To honor the occasion, a Silent March is also planned on 14th August 2023, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi. This march will be led by Mr. G. Kishan Reddy, the Honorable Minister of Culture, Tourism, and DoNER, along with other Ministers and Members of Parliament from the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
  • Other programs under this event include – Exhibition at NGMA, New Delhi; Digital Exhibition on Partition Horrors; Exhibition at Parliament Library; Film Screening, etc.
