Mineral potentiality of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands

As a part of 75 week-long celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Nodal Officer Smt. Antara Hazra, Director, Geological Survey of India, State Unit West Bengal Andaman Nicobar (WBAN), made a brief presentation regarding the purpose of commemoration of 75 years of Indian Independence.

A lecture on the Mineral potentiality of West Bengal Andaman Nicobar was delivered by Shri Sandip Neogi, Senior Geologist. During the lecture, he emphasized the mineral wealth of West Bengal and the various important mineral deposits explored by GSI from its early days in this state.

He further emphasized the future prospects of the state and how GSI is contributing to the exploration of these mineral deposits from the existing prospects. He also discussed the mineral prospects of the Andaman-Nicobar islands.

During the conclusion of the forenoon session, Director TC, SU: WBAN Shri Amit Mandal appraised future mineral exploration plans pertaining to the state of West Bengal.

In the afternoon session, Shri. Sambuddha Mukherjee, Geologist delivered a lecture on geochemical anomaly and its role in identifying mineral potential zones. He explained how the samples are collected in the field and emphasized the care to be taken in the collection of the samples.

Both the sessions were interactive as students participated actively and raised different questions.
