January 31, 2023

In the 97th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on the various festivals that are being organized around the country in the month of January. From north to south and east to west, the people of the country are celebrating our diverse culture with pride.

The Prime Minister was elated to see the response to the Republic Day parade of 2023. He noted that the most appreciated parts of the parade were the involvement of Shramyogis (workers involved in the development of Kartavya Path), the culturally rich and interactive tableaus of States/UTs and Ministries along with the first-ever Women contingent of CRPF and women camel riders.

The highlight of this episode was the ‘Padma Awards’ that were announced on 25th January 2023. Several people who have worked on tribal languages such as Toto, Ho, Kui, Kuvi, and Manda have received Padma Awards. This year, Padma Awardees have emerged from Naxal-affected areas as well, showcasing the inclusive development of the country.

The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the people who have contributed to enriching the world of music. This year's recipients of the Padma Awards include those who are taking forward the legacy of melodies of our folk instruments such as the Santoor, Bamhum, and Dwitara.

Later in his address, the Prime Minister also talked about the book ‘India – the Mother of Democracy’ which talks about the democratic culture of India. He also introduced the word ‘Milletpreneurs’ and explained the progress of Women of Odisha in the millet industry. The Odisha Millets Mission collaborates with a Self-Help Group consisting of 1500 tribal women from the Sundergarh area.

He mentioned about the tourist hub Goa and the ‘Purple Fest’ event. The Purple Fest was organized from 6th to 8th January 2023 in Panaji, Goa. This was a unique event for the welfare of Divyangs. More than 50,000 Divyang brothers and sisters participated in the fest making it a success. Several activities such as cricket, table tennis, marathon tournaments, and a deaf-blind convention were also organized at ‘Miramar Beach’ in Goa.
