Hon’ble President of India inaugurates ‘Festival of Libraries 2023’

Hon’ble President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the ‘Festival of Libraries 2023’ at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 5th August 2023. The festival was organized by the Ministry of Culture to promote digitization and the development of modern libraries. The festival was held for two days (5th- 6th August 2023) and focused on some of the most iconic libraries in India.
The Festival of Libraries was aligned with Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to develop and digitize libraries across the country to cultivate a culture of reading. Some of the noteworthy highlights from the festival included the launch of a crowd-sourced directory of libraries, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between three prominent libraries of the country Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library, Patna, Bihar; Rampur Raza Library, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh; and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Arabic Persian Research Institute, Tonk, Rajasthan.
The Festival of Libraries was a unique event that attracted participants from the entire ecosystem of libraries across the country. The visitors also experienced exhibitions on Cartographic archives, Calligraphy types, and Cursive writing styles in 22 vernacular languages from India.
