Paying tribute to India’s freedom fighters

She was born on 23 March 1880 and was married to the fiery nationalist Chittranjan Das at the age of 17 years. She also took part in the freedom struggle and was arrested in the non-cooperation movement of 1921. She was President of Bengal Congress during 1921-22. After the death of her husband C R Das, she took care of journal Bangaler Katha. It was she who exhorted Indian youth to assert Indian dignity after the British police attack on Lala Lajpat Rai. Netaji Subhas Bose considered her as ‘adoptive mother’. She was honored with Padam Vibhushan in 1973 and passed away on 7 May 1974 at the age of 94 years.
