Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, from Tarn Taran in Punjab, attained training from the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun). Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon was responsible for training and welfare of the 5th Guerrilla Regiment. Dhillon met Netaji in Rangoon. Later, he was promoted as Commander of the Nehru Brigade. He was one of the three INA officers, along with Shah Nawaz Khan and Prem Sahgal, who were put on trial by the colonial regime at the Red Fort, Delhi. In 1954, upon their release, the crowd at the Minto Park (Lahore) greeted them by shouting the slogan 'Chaalis karodon ki ek hi awwz, Sahgal, Dhillon, Shahnawaz'!
For the Rani of Jhansi Regiment (RJR), Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon mentioned, "Within a few days of his arrival in the East, Netaji gave us a Vanguard – the Rani of Jhansi Regiment…They manifested the blessings of the Goddess and power of her Shakti".
