Sagarmal Gopa was a revolutionary patriot since the very beginning. He got inspired for the cause of political struggle from Shri Raghunath Singh and immersed himself in the nationalist freedom struggle. He participated in the non-cooperation movement in the year 1921 and created obstacles for the British government with his revolutionary work. He fought relentlessly to free the people of Jaisalmer from atrocities, and also wrote two important books titled 'Jaisalmer mein Gundaraj' and 'Raghunath Singh ka Mukadma'. Due to his revolutionary ideology and activities, the royal family of Jaisalmer was not kind towards his person. On 25 May 1941, he was imprisoned, and was subjected to various kinds of torture. He breathed his last in prison on 3 April 1946.
