Wonder Caves: Bhimbetka Caves

Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’s theme of Cultural Pride, the “Wonder Caves” festival is being organized by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Under this, a beautiful blend of literature, culture, art, archaeology, and history is presented. This festival is a campaign dedicated to our rich history, culture, stories of freedom struggle, and the Bravehearts deeply ingrained in the built heritage and caves of our country.

North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India in association with Archaeological Survey of India, Bhopal Circle organised a program “Wonder Caves” at Bhimbetka Caves on 6th and 7th June 2023.

On June 6th a heritage excursion program and a quiz and painting competition for school children, along with a photo exhibition of the cave and fort paintings. A total of 57 children participated in the competitions, and prizes and certificates were distributed by the Chief Guest, Mr. Bhuvan Vikram. The children were introduced to Bhimbetka and various forts and caves of the country by Mr. Bhuvan Vikram. In the evening, cultural programs were presented by folk artists from different states at the ancient Shiva temple in Bhojpur.  The performances included bhajans, folk songs, dances, and other traditional presentations by artists from Bhopal, Rajasthan, Ujjain, and Uttar Pradesh. Officials from the Archaeological Survey of India were also present.

On June 7th, cultural performances included Ganesh Vandana and folk singing by Shri Gaya Prasad Prajapati and group, followed by dance performances like Saira dance, Ghoomar, Bhavai, Gangaur, and Matki. The event wrapped up with Braj Vandana and Braj ki Holi by Shri Madhava Acharya and group.
