ISRO successfully launches Chandrayaan-3

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Department of Space, successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, India on 14th July 2023. The mission is a follow-on to the Chandrayaan-2 mission which was aimed to showcase India’s capability to soft land and rove over the surface of the Moon.
To research and showcase new technology necessary for interplanetary missions, Chandrayaan-3 comprises an indigenous lander module (LM), propulsion module (PM), and Rover. The Lander is aimed to soft-land at a chosen location on the moon and release the Rover, which shall conduct a chemical analysis of the lunar surface while it is moving. Both the Lander and the Rover are equipped with research payloads for lunar surface investigations.
