Bogh Singh

Amritsar, Punjab

August 08, 2022 to August 08, 2023

Mahant Bogh Singh was the son of Natha Singh, priest of the Gurdwara Jhar Sahib in Amritsar (now Tarn Taran). Jhar Sahib Gurdwara became a secret meeting place for Ghadar Party members under his leadership. Lal Singh Bhure, Gujjar Singh, and other Ghadar Party members frequently visited Gurdwara. Soldiers from the 23rd Cavalry and Prem Singh Sur Singh gathered here to join the proposed rebellion in November 1914. Jass Kaur, Bogh Singh's mother, was a brave woman who joined the Ghadar Party and fought for freedom. She was in charge of the well-being of ghadarites who sought refuge at Jhar Sahib Gurdwara. The Gurdwara was raided by police, who arrested Sucha Singh, Nihal Singh, Bogh Singh, and other ghadarites for aiding and abetting seditious activities against British rule. Bogh Singh was tried in the Supplementary Lahore Conspiracy Case under Sections 121 and 121 A. He was sentenced to life in prison and property forfeiture. His sentence was later commuted to ten-year rigorous imprisonment in HazariBagh Jail. He suffered greatly in prison. He died on his way back from Hazaribagh after his release in 1920 under the Royal Proclamation.
